McCloud California - Gateway to your exceptional Northern California fly fishing and adventure!
The town of McCloud here in Northern California is nestled at the base of Mt. Shasta. It offers spectacular scenery and is located within striking distance of wonderful year round outdoor activities including fly fishing, paddling, skiing, hiking, camping and climbing. This spot is a must for outdoor lovers! With a population of just under 1,000 souls, visitors use McCloud as a base to experience internationally recognized trout fishing on the nearby McCloud River, Upper Sacramento, Lower Sacramento and Klamath Rivers, or come to see and climb Mount Shasta, Castle Crags or the Trinity Alps. Visitors also engage in nearby skiing (both alpine and cross-country), biking or hiking to the waterfalls, streams and lakes in the area, including nearby Falls of the McCloud River, Burney Falls, Mossbrae Falls, Lake Siskiyou, Castle Lake and Lake Shasta.
The town’s charm as a quaint/scenic getaway is perhaps only rivaled by the beauty of the angling paradise that shares it’s name. The McCloud river is a storied fishery, and with good reason! At the turn of the century eggs from the rivers genetically unique rainbows were carefully transported from the cool pristine waters and used to stock much of the continental U.S. and far off places such as New Zealand, Chile and Argentina. Dignitaries, railroad barons and even presidents have fished these waters. The Mac as we affectionately call it is open year round for fishing and anglers can expect just about equal opportunities fishing with nymphs, & dries with streamers being very effective at times as well. It is the feisty rainbows & browns, stunning natural vistas, variety of outdoor pursuits, friendly accommodations and rich history that bring us back to experience the town of McCloud time and time again.
The Upper Sacramento is not far and is home to some beautiful wild rainbows!
